IELTS Course

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) assesses your ability to communicate in English across four essential skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The complete test takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Listening

Duration: Approximately 30 minutes
Questions: 40
Parts: 4

You will listen to four recordings, including everyday conversations, social situations and academic discussions or lectures. Each recording is played once. Question types may include multiple choice, sentence completion, form completion, matching and labelling diagrams or maps. The Listening section is the same for IELTS Academic and General Training.

Reading

Duration: 60 minutes
Questions: 40
Sections: 3

In IELTS Academic, you will read three longer texts taken from books, journals, magazines, newspapers and online sources. The texts are suitable for students planning to study at university level.

In IELTS General Training, the texts are based on everyday life, the workplace and topics of general interest. They may include advertisements, notices, company policies, job descriptions and newspaper or magazine articles.

Writing

Duration: 60 minutes
Tasks: 2

Academic Writing Task 1: Describe and compare information presented in a graph, chart, table, map, diagram or process. Write at least 150 words.

General Training Writing Task 1: Write a formal, semi-formal or personal letter based on a given situation. Write at least 150 words.

Writing Task 2: Write an essay of at least 250 words in response to an opinion, argument, problem or discussion topic. Task 2 contributes twice as much as Task 1 to the final Writing score.

Speaking

Duration: 11–14 minutes
Parts: 3

The Speaking test is a recorded interview with an IELTS examiner.

Part 1: Answer questions about yourself and familiar topics such as your studies, work, hometown, interests or daily life.

Part 2: Speak for up to two minutes about a topic provided on a task card. You receive one minute to prepare.

Part 3: Discuss broader and more abstract questions connected to the Part 2 topic.

Academic or General Training?

Choose IELTS Academic when applying for university, postgraduate education or professional registration. Choose IELTS General Training mainly for migration, employment, training or study below degree level. Listening and Speaking are the same in both tests, while Reading and Writing are different.

IELTS Scores

Each section receives a score from Band 0 to Band 9, including half-band scores such as 6.5 or 7.5. Your overall IELTS score is calculated from the average of your Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking scores.

Academstar IELTS Course

Academstar’s IELTS course is a 12-week cyclic programme designed to develop all four IELTS skills. We prepare students for Academic IELTS, General Training IELTS and IELTS UKVI. Students attend three main classes per week:

• Listening, Reading and Speaking class
• Writing class
• Homework review and practice class

Homework is assigned once a week and reviewed during the homework class.

During the first 8 weeks, students study all essential IELTS topics, question types and strategies. The final 4 weeks are dedicated to revision, intensive practice and exam preparation.

Because the programme follows a cyclic structure, students can join the course at any time without waiting for a new group to begin.

We use Academstar’s original IELTS materials, developed by Nijat Guliyev, our head teacher with 16 years of experience. Our students typically achieve average scores between Band 7.0 and 8.5.

Students also receive access to:

• Individual Speaking classes
• Individual Writing review
• Practice classes up to five times a week
• Real-exam Listening, Reading and Writing questions
• Regular speaking practice and exam simulations

Our course combines structured lessons, continuous revision and intensive practice to help students approach the IELTS exam with confidence.

Homework and Online Practice

Students receive homework once a week. Homework includes:

• Listening and Reading tests
• Writing essays
• Speaking topic preparation

Completed homework must be submitted by email to homework@academstar.com.

Students are also required to complete additional Reading tests through  our online platform. To get access to this platform, please contact the reception via WhatsApp.
